OILES 500 bearings are found very useful in offshore applications because of the maintenance free duty. The bearings are not affected by sea water and provide a trouble free running without maintenance during the length of time usually requested in the offshore industry.

The bearings are lubricated for life by an embedded solid lubricant SL4 which gives a very low friction in sea water. Additonal lubrication is not required, but allowed. Please consult us for a tailored advice regarding your application.
Basematerial
We provide a wide variety of bronzes as basematerial. JM3, a Tin bronze and JM7, a Ni-Al Bronze are usually used in offshore applications due to their corrosion resistance in sea water and high strength. On request other alloys can be produced.
Lubricant
The lubricant used in offshore applications is based on PTFE and lead with a binder. The temperature limit for this lubricant with designation SL 4 is 105°C. The lubricant is embedded in the bearings in the shape of cylindrical plugs. The diameter of the plugs is depending on the inside diameter of the bearing. The sliding surface is covered to 30% by this lubricant. For the initial running the complete sliding surface is coated with a film of the same lubricant. This film is also very effective when the movements are small (less than the distance on the surface between two plugs). In this case it takes some movements before the lubricant from the plugs cover the surface completely.
Bearing Life
- Life time calculation formulas include a factor obtained in tests and by experience. They also include a factor describing the typ of application, running, environment or other caracteristics.
- Life time also depends on bearing load, surface velocity and environment temperature.
- Because of some of the factors are uncertain life time calculations are approximative.
